SHAWNEE- Prior to Saturday morning's race at Gordon Cooper Technology Center, the Cavaliers men's cross country team had not competed in a meet so far this year with the five runners needed to qualify for a team score, but at the SAC Championships they did, and they caught the fields' eye. St. Gregory's came into the final meet in last place in the conference, but the Cavs were able to run hard and earn a seventh place finish when it mattered most. Four out the Cavaliers six men's runners recorded either personal best times or season best times in the 8 kilometer race.

SGU was led by Luis Lopez (JR/McAllen, Texas)'s twenty-eighth place finish, as he crossed the finish line in 27:25.76, a new personal best time. Jose DeOchoa (SO/Mission, TX) finished with a season best time of 29:23.16. Fernando Gonzalez (FR/Oklahoma City, Okla) ran the best race of his St. Gregory's career as he set a new personal best time of 30:44.26. Sager McCrary (FR/Conyers, GA) finished just 40 seconds after Gonzales with a final time of 31:24.05. Michael White (JR/Morgantown, WV) ran well and finished with a time of 32:50.32, while Colton Edelen finished with a season best time of 37:42.16.

Men's Cross Country Head Coach Chris Creal was pleased with how his team performed at the championship meet and went on to say, "We were going into this meet not seeded well, so we just wanted to focus on beating as many teams as we could. We really stepped up as a team and made a statement that we are not a group to overlook." Creal continued, "We'd like to thank everyone from the SGU community who helped us host this conference event. We wouldn't have been able to make today's success happen without their help."

Some of the Cavs will now head into the off-season, while some of the others will prepare to run long distance races for SGU's track and field team.
