SHAWNEE- St. Gregory's University hosted the 2017 SAC Cross Country Championships at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center on Saturday morning, and the Cavalier women competed strong to finish in fifth place as a team. The Cavs had 7 student-athletes competing in the women's race, and had four runners finish in the top 35 out of the 69 runners in total.

Alexas Vargas (SO/Terrell, Texas) had the top time for SGU, with a 20:02.21 finish, good for sixteenth place individually. Vargas missed out on a trip to nationals by just four seconds, as Alexandria Barrientez of Texas Wesleyan barely finished before the Cavs sophomore. Teresa Ambuul (SO/Colorado Springs, CO) had the Cavs second best finish as she crossed the finish line in 20:56.93, good for twenty-sixth place. Kathleen Joyce (SO/Edmond, Okla.) performed extremely well, while finishing in twenty-ninth place for the Cavs, with a final time of 21:22.87. Sophia Weisbruch (JR/Temple, Texas) finished the 5 kilometer race in just 21:34.24, as she finished in thirty-first place. Teagan Dreyer (SR/OKMULGEE, OK) ran a personal best time of 21:55.18, as she finished in thirty-fifth place. Araceli Flores (SR) performed well as she crossed the finish line in 22:50.26. Samantha Gonzalez finished in 25:34.66, and Maria Rodriguez (FR/Ft. Worth, TX) finished in 29:52.23.

Cavs Head Coach Ben Dodson said," As a women's team, we finished right about where we were expected to finish.  We had some strong performances today and at the end of the day, we gave it our best."
